Tyrlon

The woman- Valkyrie- before me is utterly enthralling. She's gorgeous, yes, even covered in ash, blood, and some kind of light green paste, but it's something else that draws me to her. Something that makes me immediately believe her claim of being my mate. I've always been protective of others, but my instincts regarding Syndra are stronger than even that.

Her clear blue eyes search mine desperately, waiting for my response to her revelation. But I'd already offered to help her. Why would she be so concerned that I'd change my mind now that I know the specifics of what she needs?

"I'm happy to help," I repeat, an amused rumble to my voice. "Do Valkyries establish a Mate Bond the same as shifters do?"

The woman's cheeks turn pink. "W-well, yes..." She pauses for another breath, drawing my eyes to follow the movement of her chest. "But it's not so simple. I'm supposed to mate with non-magical humans."

"Then why are you here?" I frown at her and the two males accompanying her. "As you can see, I'm no mere human."

"Yeah, we got that," the psychic mutters under his breath. Annoyance and frustration radiate from him, though I'm sure not all of it is directed at me.

The Valkyrie seems to grow increasingly upset the longer we discuss the topic. Interesting . "It just didn't work out that way. The spell to find my most powerful Potential Mates led me to you three." She indicates me with the psychic and wolf shifter as though that would be enough to answer my question. "Now I'm out of time... and I don't know what to do."

An impatient frown now pulls at my lips. If she is so pressed for time, why are we still standing in this field that stinks of burning demon flesh? "As I said, I'm happy to help in any way needed. You have no need to decide if you want to claim me or not at this very moment. Let's travel to your city and prepare to fight. Whatever your plan going forward, we'll need to be there to do anything about this demon problem, not here."

"Right. Of course, you're right," Syndra breathes, nodding quickly as she accepts my proposal. "I don't have time to find human mates, so there's nowhere to go but back home. I'll figure something out in the meantime. Maybe just take one of you for a mate and find a human to mate with later, after the danger has passed."

The wolf shifter smiles welcomingly at me, though the psychic pointedly turns away, head hanging low. "After what you did to those demons, I'm happy to have you traveling with us in any case. Good to meet you, Tyrlon. I'm Christian."

"Pleasure." His grip is firm on my hand, and though the look on his face is friendly, I can see a fire burning behind his eyes that almost seems to speak to the soul of a dragon shifter within. He's clearly willing to fight for this woman. That's good.
